SK3 George M Kuhn
Unfortunately, nothing is known about George Kuhn’s early life besides the fact that he lived in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. Nevertheless, Mr. Kuhn joined the US Navy on January 9th, 1964 and was placed in reserve, completing Navy Recruit training in June 1964 and in July, he became stationed on the USS Abbot for more extensive training. He was then sent to Naval Station Philadelphia to begin his active duty assignment on July 6th, 1965 and reported for duty on the USS Alfred Cunningham in November. This would be the ship George would be on for the longest time, only serving with another ship, the USS Bennington, for 6 weeks temporary duty. In December 1967, George Kuhn was sent to Naval Amphibious School at Coronado, California to undergo a 3 week Navy Counterinsurgency Orientation to become a potential advisor in Vietnam. Completing training, he shipped out to NAVSUPPAC, DaNang, Vietnam and arrived on April 7th, 1968, helping manage supplies going to troops in the field. After nearly a year in DaNang, George was sent back to Naval Station Philadelphia and was ultimately discharged on April 25th, 1969 as an SK3, completing over 5 years of naval service. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal.
